Dr. Pawan K Sharma is a senior technology leader with over 24 years of experience in IT transformation, IT operations, capacity and cost projections, IT governance, and information security. He currently leading global information security programs at Tata Motors. He has extensive experience in setting up of global in-house centres (shared services center) in India for MNCs and manage large offshore development centres for IT services organizations. Sharma leads several strategic outsourcing deals from US and Europe to India.


For over seven decades now, Tata Motors has played an instrumental role in putting the Indian automotive sector on the global platform. Given its massive infrastructure and volumes of data processed, Tata Motors desired uptime and critical data flow most from an IT standpoint. The company faced the challenge of business downtime, policy testing and analyses of data flow. Dr. Pawan K Sharma, CISO at Tata Motors, shared that the analysis of critical data flow in order to tune policies took up a lot of time. The company deployed solutions and drove implementations to improve the efficiency of IT solutions geared towards data movement. In addition to this, the auto manufacturing giant reduced the risk of data compromise through stronger information security controls. The company strives to comply with applicable laws and regulations related to protection of personal data. Tata Motors' policy sets forth the basic principles by which the company processes the personal data of customers, suppliers, business partners, employees and other individuals, in addition to indicating the responsibilities of its business departments and employees while processing personal data. The company also upgraded its end-point security and on the governance and compliance front; GRC - CVA was completed for SAP users.
