Col. AJ Vijaykumar is the Chief Information Security Officer of Tata Communications, responsible for information security, governance, risk and compliance of the company. He has a B.Tech. degree in electronics and an M.Tech. degree in computer science & engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Pune and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

KEY SECURITY INITIATIVES

During his service of over 20 years in the Indian Army, he has had the experience of both designing defense technology products as well as leading troops in combat operations during the Kargil conflict in the Naushera sector on the LoC. After leaving the Army in 2001, he has had over 15 years of experience in IT security with hands-on experience in all the layers of information technology such as embedded systems, enterprise applications, enterprise network and global telecom networks. He had served in L&T Infotech, Satyam Computers, and Ramco Systems prior to joining Tata Communications in 2007. At Tata Communications, from May 2007 till June 2010, he was responsible for setting up a global security operations center for serving managed security services customers. Since 2010, he has been CISO for Tata Communications, during which he has conceptualized and implemented a number of technical security controls in cyber security, resulting in compliance with DoT security requirements. He has also drafted the cyber security strategy and information security policy for his current organization. He is a certified information system security professional (CISSP). He has been the anchor for Mumbai chapter of Data Security Council of India (DSCI) for two years between 2012-2014. He is passionate about cryptography and is a speaker on cyber security topics at various forums.
